Last Sunday after leaving church we saw a lady walking two dogs and Jeff looked at me with his sad puppy eyes (that I cannot resist) and said "honey, can we get another dog". It was all downhill from there. We searched on Craigslist for the perfect puppy (I strongly suggest searching the humane society for the perfect pet first; following an episode of Oprah) and we came across a posting that had a 3 year old chihuahua/terrier mix. As I scrolled down I saw this photo of a dog that was the exact image of Lucki our other baby. You could not tell the difference between the dogs so Jeff's ear immediately perked up (no pun intended). We contacted the lady and arranged to meet a few hours later at the dog park. From the storyline told by his owner it sounded like they came from the SAME EXACT place and just had to be brothers. Needless to say, the next 2 hours went by sooo slow. We didnt accomplish anything we had planned and just headed straight for the dog park. The family was already there waiting for us. From the looks of Makai (thats his name by the way) we just couldnt resist taking him home. He was an EXACT imagine of Lucki....only this little guy isnt so little. He is about 9 lbs. heavier than Lucki. He's definately a healthy eater. So it has been a little over a week and he's just perfect. If I could create the perfect dog to add to our family it would be him. He has such a great disposition that I cannot believe anyone would ever abandon him. Oh forgot to mention that his previous owners found him on the beach where he had been dumped more than once because his previous owners before them said he was "too hyper, too much to handle" but he is not at all too much for us.
Here is a pic of Lucki & Makai....you cant tell them apart except for the fat difference! Makai is the one on the left!
I could go on about Makai but I'll just point out some funny traits of his:
- He LOVES to sit on the arm rest of the couch like a cat.
- Lucki usually sleeps until atleast 10am but since Makai joined our home he has been waking up at 5, 6, 7, & 8. If I dont wake up w/ each of Makai's kisses he'll wake Lucki up b/c he knows I cannot sleep through two dogs jumping all over me.
- He loves to be in your lap and held like a baby (even though he weighs atleast 29lbs.)
- Anytime a pin drops outside of our house his hair stands up and he heads straight for the door barking and houling. But the second anyone actually knocks on the door he runs to my side and hides.
I could go on and on. Once Jeff told me that Lucki has become a "mommas boy" and doesnt love him anymore so he wanted his own dog. But little does Jeff know when he returns from this two week long training he will soon realize that BOTH our dogs are mommas boys and he'll just have to settle for loving the cats. :)
By the way, I'll post pictures of them together later. Once I fix the camera.
